So Nicholas Cage recently starred in a film written and directed by Paul Schrader (the guy who penned ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Raging Bull’) and produced by Nicolas Winding Refn (the genius behind ‘Drive’). This has late-night action/thriller goodness written all over it, right? Well the quality of the film itself still remains to be seen, but according to Cage you shouldn’t watch it regardless.
‘Dying of the Light’ tells the story of veteran CIA agent Evan Lake (Cage) who as you can probably guess has to catch some sort of villain, but wait there’s a twist: he’s been diagnosed with dementia. As a sucker for any movie that is even remotely thrilling, I know I’ll probably end up watching it at some point, but I would be doing so against the direct instruction of nearly everyone involved in the films making. According to Paul Schrader, he was left in the cold during the editing process when the film which he wrote and directed was “redited, scored and mixed” without his input.
